Sotheby's Auction, Watches, 4 September 2020 • 12:00 EDT • New York PATEK PHILIPPE | RETAILED BY RAYMOND YARD: A PLATINUM OPEN FACED WATCH, MADE IN 1937. RETAILED BY RAYMOND YARD: A PLATINUM OPEN FACED WATCH, CIRCA 1940 Signed: dial signed by maker and retailer, case and movement signed by maker Accessories: Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming the date of sale on October 25, 1940 and that the case is signed by S&W and encased by Patek Philippe.

Catalogue note The high quality platinum case was made by the illustrious New York casemakers Schwab & Wuischpard who signed their products "S&W". The "S&W" signature appears regularly on platinum Patek Philippe cases, predominantly during the 1940s and early 1950s, delivered to the US market. The case of the present watch was made in the US, however interestingly, the Extract from the Archives of Patek Philippe record its case number. The general assumption is that whilst these cases were made outside Switzerland, Schwab & Wuischpard were granted the permission to double-sign their products "Patek Philippe & Co. Switzerland" and "S&W".
